our classroom

Our 3’s classroom is such a joyful place filled with laughter and play! Our goal is to provide a warm, welcoming and safe environment for our students to explore, discover, learn and grow through hands-on activities and experiences that inspire and excite them.  So much cognitive, social and emotional development happens in this classroom throughout the year! We focus on encouraging their confidence and self-esteem, building friendships, communication, and expressing and understanding their emotions.  Our classroom is thoughtfully laid-out with various centers including art and science, open art table, reading center, dramatic play, sensory table, blocks, writing center and manipulative tables.

Ms.Karen

This year will mark Karen Broome’s 25th year teaching here at Valley Christian Preschool.  She is a warm and gifted preschool teacher.  Our families love their time in the Bumblebee class!  Miss Karen has been a teacher at VCP since it began in 1996.  She says it has been an honor and blessing here, partnering with hundreds of families over the years in their child’s early education.  Teaching has enabled Karen to use her education, skills and talents to foster a love of learning, creating a magical environment where childhood is honored.  Karen’s been a strong advocate for Valley Christian Preschool, saying it is not only a school where the children are valued but their families are as well.  She strives to build lasting relationships while creating a community within the walls of her classroom.

Karen works very hard to inspire children to explore, investigate, create and communicate from the moment they walk through the door.  They love what they do, and feel privileged that their preschool kids enjoy great success in school.

Karen is the oldest of seven, the mother of three grown children and a proud grandmother to four grandchildren.

She draws from her experiences, and is open, approachable and a resource to parents during the navigation of these early years of development.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, music and dance, gardening, sports and cozy nights at home watching a movie!

She is inspired by the quote “While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about,”  adding “Though I am a teacher, I am constantly learning and seeing the world through the children’s eyes.”

Welcome to the Bumblebees!

We are so glad you’ve entrusted us to teach and care for your child. What an honor! Over the years, we have worked hard to create a classroom which allows your child to be immersed in a learning environment where every child’s sense of imagination and play carries them on a journey of learning. Our program is child-centered and children are encouraged to learn by playing and experiencing the world around them,

Through play, children quickly come to enjoy the learning process and feel more confident in their own capabilities, by exploring and learning in our material-rich environment. First and foremost, our most important goal in the preschool is to help children become enthusiastic learners. We do this by encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and think their own thoughts. Our goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We’re teaching them how to learn, not just in preschool, but all through their lives. Our curriculum has goals in all areas of your child’s developmental stage during their third and fourth year.

We work very hard as a team to help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends and feel they are part of the group. We focus much of our attention on working on social skills and provide opportunities through our centers and daily routine for practice as the children’s desire to build friendships grows at this age.

Everything we do in our classroom – from the activities we plan for the children, to how we organize the classroom, from our careful selection of materials and toys, to how we plan the daily schedule with children – everything is designed to give your child a successful start in school.

Sincerely,

Ms. Karen

We are so thankful to have Ms.Stephanie join us this year!  Stephanie recently moved to the Beaverton area from Yakima, Washington with her family. assistant teacher (Tuesdays & Thursdays)

Ms. Hyeyeon

We are so happy to introduce Ms. Hyeyeon!  She has a positive, warm and bubbly personality and an asset in our Bumblebee classroom.  Before coming to VCP, Hyeyeon has taught preschool at Southwest Community Center for two years where she taught the 2 year-old and 3-year old classes.  Additionally, Hyeyeon has a passion for music and has been a piano instructor for the last 20 years.  She currently works at Eliason School of Music in Multnomah Village where she spends her afternoons teaching individual and group piano lessons to all ages,  mostly teaching children ages 4 years – 16 years.

Miss Hyeyeon (pronounced ‘Hay on’) was born in Seoul, South Korea.  She lives here in Hillsboro. Her daughter is in college at the University of Cincinnati and loved to skateboard!

She doesn’t currently have any pets, but she hopes to have a llama someday.  Hyeyeon loves to travel!  Her other hobbies include camping, yoga, gardening, history, concerts and dancing.  She looks forward to doing some concert performances and dancing with our Bumblebees.  We love to dance in the Bumblebee class!
